Nepali Accent Reduction with Bishnu: Getting Started

At Carolina Speech Services, we watch individual progress from day one through the end of the customized program. Each individual’s native language or dialect presents a unique set of challenges, therefore a student’s progress is best measured against their own previous pronunciations and future goals.
We invite you to join us on a journey with our student Bishnu. His native language is Nepali and he is receiving a customized accent modification program with Brooke which he sought for education and employment reasons.
Today we will share with you two clips. One is from his very first session and the other is from his fourth session to give you a taste of where he is in the beginning of his journey. Both clips show his pronunciation of the S and SH sounds, which are a common challenge. With regular practice, the challenge can be overcome.
We are very proud of Bishnu’s quick picking up in the difference between how S and SH feel when you say them.
By lesson four, he can read a sentence that includes both S and SH, switching between them quite well.
